TOBA entered food distribution in 1995 with the purchase of The Thompson Company in Grand Island, Nebraska and expanded with the acquisitions of Braunger Foods (2002; Sioux City, Iowa) and Variety Foods (2007; Sioux Falls, South Dakota). These distribution facilities combined enjoy 300,000 square feet of modern multi-temperature warehouse space; over 100 fleet trucks; and a sales staff of over 60 district representatives and specialists. Food is distributed to thousands of customers across seven states in the Midwest.
The Thompson Company began operations in 1935 when Tommy Thompson began selling candy and tobacco off the back of his bicycle in downtown Grand Island, Nebraska. Now approaching its 80th year, The Thompson Company is a broad-line food service distributor with over 3,000 customers in six states.
Braunger Foods has been in business for 125 years! The only distributor in Sioux City, Iowa, Braunger Foods is a broad-line food service distributor covering Western Iowa, Northeast Nebraska, and Southeast South Dakota. Braunger delivers to many different customer segments including white-tablecloth, mom-and-pop restaurants, bars, delis, meat houses, and regional chains.
Variety Foods recently moved into a new state-of-the-art distribution facility in Northeast Sioux Falls. Started by Ron Breske in the 1980s primarily as a fresh produce company, Variety has expanded to become a diverse broad-line food service distributor capable of handling any food service need.
